The Most Favorite Vehicle I ever Owned
I love this picture because I am standing next to the most favorite vehicle I ever owned—a Chevrolet El Camino truck. It was more like a car with a place in the back to throw things. My children fondly called my half-car, half-truck, a “Cruck.” I loved my El Camino but over the years for some reason the seat—which was one seat that extended across for both the driver and passenger side of the car—would fly forward if I pushed too hard on the brakes. My daughters did not like that and kept complaining, so I sold my El Camino. What happened is the very next day I was driving and a man passed me driving an El Camino. I kicked myself for ever selling my Cruck. It was a soul car/truck. I loved it.

As a priest he has led retreats and six tours of Italy and France to view works of art. He has served as keynote speaker for national conventions and regularly presents articles in medical settings and conferences. In this photo, John & wife, Pat, are at church with a few of their children and grandchildren.

My book, Belief, Mystery, Miracles, and Eternity, is a journey we can take together. What I have written is taken from having lived “in the flesh” as a physician (science) and priest (spirituality). That journey came together when I became President and CEO of the Institute for Spirituality and Health in Houston. Coming to the Institute felt like it was my destiny, where all my training and experience came together science (medicine) and spirituality (religion). My twelve years and four months at the Institute gave me the opportunity to serve with physicians and members of the academic and non-profit community, including people from all five major world religions. I came to understand that God has reached out to all people in every tradition throughout all of human history. That insight informs much of what I have to share in my book.
The Institute for Spirituality and Health held Via Colori’ — chalk art event that brought together many who came with an artistic flair to experience the joy of creation.

The Yoga Institute was created by Lex Gillan over 55 years ago and has been housed at our Institute for many years. Yoga is one of the movement practices that when combined with mindfulness can become a prayerful meditation experience that can be healing to the mind, body, and soul.
